Nintendo has announced a new pre-order date for the Switch 2 in the United States, confirming that the price will stay at $450
Update, April 18, 2025: Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States will commence on April 24, with the console priced at $450.
Acknowledging recent shifts in the market, Nintendo stated on its official website that the cost of accessories might be revised in the future.
"The price of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will be adjusted from previous announcements made on April 2 due to market changes. Other Nintendo product prices could also change later depending on market dynamics."
The Mario Kart World Switch 2 package continues to be offered at $500, while Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza games will maintain their retail prices of $80 and $70, respectively, for both physical and digital copies.
Update, April 11, 2025: A new pre-order date for the Switch 2 in Canada and the U.S. has been set by Nintendo for May 8, after a delay influenced by President Donald Trump's trade tariffs.
Information on Nintendo's website outlines that on this date, a select group of users in these regions will be able to pre-order the console through My Nintendo Store.
This change follows a recent policy update from Trump that lowered tariffs on imported goods for all nations except China to 10%.
While pre-orders have been available in other regions, Europe included.
Original story, April 4, 2025: Plans to commence pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. on April 9 were canceled due to changes in Trump's 'reciprocal' tariffs on imports. The console is still slated for release on June 5.
IGN has reported that Nintendo released a statement indicating the delay was to evaluate the tariffs' impact on the market. "Pre-orders in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, to consider the tariff implications and market conditions.
"We will announce a new schedule at a later time. The launch on June 5, 2025, remains unaffected."
These tariffs followed an April 2 announcement at a Nintendo Direct event, where a $450 U.S. launch price had been confirmed. The manufacturing of the Switch 2 occurs in countries like Vietnam, which are subject to these tariffs, raising questions about whether the price considered this impact.
Nintendo set the price without fully knowing the tariffs' effects.
In discussions with GamesIndustry.biz, several experts noted the tariffs' comprehensive influence on the gaming sector and U.S. consumers has yet to be fully determined.
Meanwhile, European pre-orders are expected to start on April 8. More details will be shared by Nintendo as they become available.
