Update, April 18, 2025: Nintendo has announced that U.S. pre-orders for the Switch 2 will begin on April 24, with the console itself priced at $450. The company acknowledged that accessory prices might be adjusted due to recent shifts in the market, indicating further potential changes could be expected.

A statement on Nintendo’s official website remarked on the potential for future adjustments to product prices as market conditions evolve.

The Mario Kart World Switch 2 package will still be available for $500, while both versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will retain their $80 and $70 price points, respectively.

Update, April 11, 2025: It appears Nintendo will start accepting pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the U.S. and Canada on May 8, following a previous delay due to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. Details on this adjustment are available in the FAQ section of Nintendo’s website, specifying pre-orders through the My Nintendo Store.

This change comes after Trump's recent tariff policy modification, which reduced duties on imports from most countries, excluding China, to 10%. In other regions, such as Europe, pre-orders have already commenced.

Original story, April 4, 2025: Due to President Donald Trump’s 'reciprocal' tariffs on imports, the anticipated April 9 pre-order launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. has been postponed. However, the launch date of June 5 remains as scheduled.

As reported by IGN, Nintendo issued a press release stating the delay was to evaluate the tariffs' potential impact. "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not commence on April 9, 2025, as planned, to appraise the effects of tariffs and shifting market conditions."

Nintendo continues to affirm the unchanged release date of June 5, 2025. The tariffs were announced shortly after Nintendo Direct confirmed the $450 price point, prompting speculation about whether this price had accounted for the new tariffs, given that the console is made in locations like Vietnam.

Experts consulted by GamesIndustry.biz have remarked on the tariffs' potential impact on the gaming sector, though the full implications for both the industry and American consumers are still coming to light.

Pre-orders launched in Europe on April 8. Stay tuned for further updates from Nintendo as new information becomes available.
