Ubisoft Leamington has closed its doors

Ubisoft Leamington has officially closed, following a wave of layoffs announced in January that included this UK studio. The development was disclosed on the company's LinkedIn page, stating, "After many incredible years, we want to share the news that Ubisoft Leamington has officially closed its doors."

The message continued by expressing gratitude for the team's contributions, recognizing their creativity and passion that have significantly impacted the games they created and the community in Leamington.

Although the studio has shut down, it was noted that a few team members will still take part in local industry gatherings in Leamington Spa. Earlier this year, Ubisoft conveyed to GamesIndustry.biz that a "small number" of employees would transition to remote positions.

As part of cost-cutting efforts intended to focus on key projects, approximately 100 positions were terminated across Ubisoft Leamington and Ubisoft Reflections in Newcastle. This strategic decision was aimed at maintaining long-term stability.

Initially known as FreeStyleGames, the team behind the DJ Hero franchise, Ubisoft Leamington had been supporting larger projects like Tom Clancy's The Division and Star Wars: Outlaws since being acquired by Ubisoft in 2017.

Before its closure, the studio was reportedly developing a new, unannounced IP, hinted at through past job postings and social media updates.
