A customized processor developed by Nvidia for the Nintendo Switch 2 will enable ray tracing on the upcoming console. Nvidia's blog post reveals that the Switch 2 will feature new RT Cores for ray tracing and Tensor Cores to leverage Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), enhancing resolution quality.

Nvidia claims that the Switch 2 boasts graphics capabilities that are ten times stronger than those of the original Nintendo Switch. The hardware improvements include advanced game engines, enhanced physics, and refined APIs, all designed to accelerate and streamline game development.

The console will incorporate Nvidia's G-Sync technology to offer a variable refresh rate, minimizing screen tearing even in handheld mode.

Specifications from Nintendo indicate that the Switch 2's handheld mode will support up to 1080p resolution and 120fps, displayed on a 7.9-inch LCD screen. While docked, the console can achieve 4K resolution, complemented by a built-in cooling fan for better performance.

The Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5, 2025. Pre-orders will commence on April 8 in the UK and Europe, extending to the US and Canada on April 9, as outlined in a report.

To "prioritize the most dedicated players," Nintendo has introduced limitations on pre-orders through My Nintendo Store.

Moreover, GamesIndustry.biz consulted analysts regarding the impact of US President Donald Trump's tariffs on the Switch 2, discussing potential effects on consumer pricing. Their insights are available here.
