The creators of Myst studio have laid off half of their employees, Split Fiction entered the Guinness World Records three times, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has garnered over a million wishlists. Here are the main events in the gaming industry from the past weekend.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- Cyan Worlds studio experienced significant layoffs. The developers of the iconic Myst series reported that they had to part ways with 12 employees, accounting for half of their staff. The team made every effort to avoid layoffs, but the tough situation in the industry left no other option. Cyan Worlds published a list of the specialists who were laid off and encouraged other gaming companies to consider them for any open positions.
- Hazelight Studios boasted that the co-op hit Split Fiction set three world records. The Guinness World Records acknowledged Split Fiction as 1) the most popular game featuring local co-op on Steam; 2) the highest-selling game with local co-op within 48 hours post-release; 3) the highest-selling game with local co-op within a week after release.
- The creators of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 announced that the number of wishlists for their game on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series exceeded one million. How this number is distributed across platforms remains unspecified. According to SteamDB, at the time of writing, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ranks 32nd in the list of the most wished-for upcoming games on Steam, nestled between Jump Ship and Witchbrook. The title release is set for less than a month away, on April 24.
- Ratata Arts, currently working on the rhythm game Ratatan, also revealed the number of wishlists for their project. According to them, Steam users have added Ratatan to their wishlists 150,000 times. The exact release date for the rhythm game has not been announced, but it is expected to be released sometime in 2025. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series, as well as Nintendo Switch.
