Nintendo has unveiled a new functionality for the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 that converts digital downloads into Virtual Game Cards.

This feature is scheduled for release at the end of April, allowing users to transfer and share games digitally between their devices and with family members in a Nintendo Account group, similar to handling physical cartridges.

Virtual Game Cards will be managed via a specific screen, where players can load, unload, and control access to the games on their consoles.

The feature enables digital game sharing on two devices that are registered under the same Nintendo account.

Initial setup requires local communication, but subsequently, users can preload and select games to be available on both platforms.

Games can be lent using a local wireless connection, giving family members the opportunity to play games on their own consoles.

Only one game can be on loan at a time, with a maximum borrowing period of two weeks. After this timeframe, the game will revert to its original owner.

The borrower's account retains save data, accessible for future borrowing or purchasing of the game.
