Ex-Space Ape developers unite to establish Offroad Games
Developers who previously worked with Space Ape have united to create a new gaming company called Offroad Games.
This venture involves team members from two of Space Ape's former initiatives, Chrome Valley Customs and Fastlane: Road to Revenge. The ten-person start-up is also reviving Space Ape’s previously shelved project, Go Race: Super Karts, alongside an undisclosed car-related intellectual property.
In a conversation with PocketGamer.biz, CEO Geoffrey Gilles, who helmed Chrome Valley Customs as General Manager, collaborates with CTO Christopher Jubb, lead designer Vera Zaitceva, lead artist Hyo Chan, finance director Cameron Simon, and others, totaling seven full-time staff and three contractors.
Gilles intends to expand the team to 15 members, although Offroad Games has not yet attracted investment from Space Ape's parent company, Supercell, or any other investors.
"Entrepreneurship has always been my goal, and I found an opening to continue running successful live games," Gilles remarked to PG.biz, emphasizing that teamwork, agility, and independent thinking form the foundation of Offroad's principles.
He continued, "I saw this opportunity to manage both games, rehire some team members, and shape an inspiring company vision. My values align with creating a development environment that thrives."
Supercell, which held a 62% stake in Space Ape, enhanced its investment in Space Ape in November, acquiring the London studio. In January, Space Ape expanded by creating the NextBeat studio, though in February 2025, it reduced its workforce by 30 positions.
