Samsung will reduce the commission in the Galaxy Store to 20%
Samsung has decided to lower the commission in its Galaxy Store mobile app store. The company announced that starting May 15, 2025, the commission for apps, games, and in-app purchases will be 20% instead of the current 30%.
Samsung also announced that the commission for subscriptions will be even lower—15%.
The commission reduction will be available to all developers. There will be no revenue restrictions like those in the App Store and Google Play. Recall that in 2021, Apple lowered its store commission from 30% to 15% for teams earning less than one million dollars a year. Shortly thereafter, Google announced a reduction in Google Play's commission from 30% to 15% on every first million dollars per calendar year, regardless of the developers' total annual revenue.
Samsung indicated that developers do not need to sign additional agreements or take any further action to reduce the commission. All they need to do is simply wait until May 15.
In recent years, many store owners have made concessions for developers. In addition to the already mentioned App Store and Google Play, the commission has also been reduced in:
- Amazon Appstore — from 30% to 20% for teams with an annual income below one million dollars;
- Microsoft Store — from 30% to 12% for PC game developers;
- Viveport (temporarily) — for most of 2024, HTC charged developers 10% of revenue instead of the usual 30%.
