No information was provided on how players are distributed between the first and second parts of Cities: Skylines.
It is known that as of June 2022, the sales of the first Cities: Skylines reached 12 million copies. As for Cities: Skylines II, by the end of 2023, it had sold 1 million copies. It is important to note that these figures pertain to sales. Meanwhile, the figure of 45 million people includes both game purchasers and those who tried the titles for free through Game Pass subscriptions or free weekends on Steam.
Cities: Skylines is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The second part of the series is currently only available on PC. Initially, developers from Colossal Order planned to release the console versions of Cities: Skylines II simultaneously with the PC release, but then decided to postpone them for additional polishing. It is currently expected that Cities: Skylines II will be released on PlayStation and Xbox no earlier than the summer.
