Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the remake of Until Dawn, has "effectively closed"
The creators of the Until Dawn remake, Ballistic Moon, appear to have shut down entirely, according to recent reports.
In September 2024, Ballistic Moon announced significant layoffs, revealing plans to drastically reduce its operations. This strategy aimed to ensure the company's ongoing viability, as posted on LinkedIn.
Sources cited by InsiderGaming claim that, in addition to the 40 employees dismissed in September, another 20 have been let go quietly. It is believed that only the studio's founders and potentially a few others remain.
Insider Gaming's sources indicate a complete absence of staff in public relations, marketing, and even development, with management struggling to acquire new projects or funding.
A source noted, "People are flagging bugs in [Until Dawn remake] to the team, but currently, no one is handling patch support for the game. The studio effectively no longer operates."
There have also been reports from anonymous sources regarding prolonged periods of unpaid overtime.
Ballistic has yet to issue any official comments regarding the situation.
In the beginning months of 2025, nearly 1200 developers have been impacted by layoffs, affecting various companies such as Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword, NetEase Games, Toast Interactive, Night School Studio, and most recently, Striking Distance.
