After 14 years, Studio Fizbin is closing its doors, making the upcoming release of Reignbreaker its final project
Studio Fizbin has officially announced that Reignbreaker, their forthcoming release, will also be their swan song.
An announcement highlighted by Game Developer reveals that Alexander Pieper, the founder and CEO, stated, "every magic show has an end, and after 14 years of giving it our all, Studio Fizbin will be winding down operations this spring (Q2) after releasing Reignbreaker."
Pieper described the challenging circumstances facing the gaming industry, adding that their own struggles were compounded when Thunderful, their parent company, significantly decreased internal development efforts in November 2024. Thunderful’s CEO Martin mentioned these changes had also impacted Studio Fizbin in the latest quarterly update.
During this period, various potential projects were evaluated post-Reignbreaker. However, none were viable, prompting the studio's closure.
This makes Reignbreaker the last creation from Studio Fizbin. The team is dedicated to ensuring it becomes their crowning achievement, with release slated for March 18, and plans to offer comprehensive post-launch support.
Post-launch, the priority for Pieper and the team will be not only to deliver a stellar game but also to assist their "exceptionally talented team in finding new opportunities in the industry."
The studio expressed profound gratitude towards their team, both current members and those who have moved on, highlighting how their efforts have defined Fizbin's legacy. "Fizbin and its games are defined by its team members, and you all made this the most inspiring place to perform the world's most difficult magic trick: making games."
Reignbreaker has a release date of March 18, 2025.
Back in 2023, Thunderful acquired the German developer Studio Fizbin via its subsidiary, Headup, for undisclosed financial terms.
Known for the 2021 release Say No! More, the studio also made its mark with the puzzle platformer Minute of Islands, released the same year.
In the first two months of 2025, close to 1,200 industry professionals have faced layoffs, with numerous companies like Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, and others such as Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword, NetEase Games, Toast Interactive, and Night School Studio experiencing similar challenges.
