Aptoide officially rolls out its services to iOS users throughout the European Union
Aptoide, a non-Apple app marketplace, has officially rolled out its service on iOS devices within the European Union.
Included in this launch is a feature called App Versions, which allows users to download previous versions of apps, a capability that was previously exclusive to Android.
Aptoide initially debuted in June 2024 with a beta phase, amassing a waitlist of 20,000 individuals. Previously, it has been noted that Aptoide offers an alternative in-app purchasing system for iOS, along with an IAP software development kit made in partnership with Apple.
Paulo Trezentos, CEO of Aptoide, remarked, "This full launch signifies a significant advancement in game distribution for iOS and underscores Aptoide's dedication to fostering an open and unrestricted distribution ecosystem."
He added, "Apple users are now able to enjoy new opportunities, yet much more effort is needed to further open iOS worldwide and ease user and developer interactions."
Following the introduction of Aptoide's beta last year, Epic Games unveiled its mobile store, making Fortnite and Fall Guys accessible on iOS in the EU and Android globally.
The introduction of these independent app stores was made possible by the Digital Markets Act, which mandates that Apple must permit third-party app stores on its platform.
