The co-founder of Jumpship has regained ownership of the studio from Thunderful
After recent job cuts at Thunderful last November, Dino Patti, who co-founded Jumpship, has reobtained control of the studio. Additionally, he has gained stock in Sad Owl Studios, which developed Viewfinder.
Founded by Patti and Chris Olsen in 2017, Jumpship aimed to transform its action-adventure game, Somerville, into a successful intellectual property. Thunderful acquired Jumpship in 2022, soon after the release of the game. Olsen departed shortly thereafter.
During this transition, Patti took on a strategic advisory role at Thunderful.
With the studio now back under his control, Patti is setting plans to guide Jumpship in a "new direction."
He stated, "I can't reveal much now, but I genuinely think the current investment and publishing environment has become stale. It requires a major revision to enhance the experience for creative game developers and, crucially, the players."
Patti further expressed: "Jumpship has consistently aimed to explore new emotional and narrative frontiers in gaming. My goal is to move the company in a radically new trajectory, staying true to its original vision.
This is not merely a commercial decision—it’s about reviving the drive and vision that initially ignited Jumpship and elevating it to new heights."
