The third quarter of fiscal year 2025 saw a decrease in net bookings for Apex Legends despite the game performing as expected, reported Electronic Arts.

During the company's earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson highlighted future plans for Apex Legends, including considering an 'Apex 2.0' version as part of potential updates to enhance the game.

Previously, in the second quarter, Wilson had resisted the concept of a sequel to resolve issues within the franchise, but new developments indicate this may be in progress. More details can be found here.

Wilson acknowledged that the franchise's business trajectory has not met company goals recently, despite efforts to enrich its content. He suggested that a significant update to the game was necessary.

"Our thoughts are that any substantial updates wouldn't coincide with the Battlefield launch expected in 2026," he commented, hinting that such developments would likely follow that timeframe.

He further emphasized the rarity and enduring appeal of franchises like Apex, expressing confidence in their longevity and the potential for future major updates, likely to materialize in what could be dubbed Apex 2.0.

Additionally, EA's third-quarter financial outcomes showed reduced revenue and net bookings, which Wilson attributed to the "temporary underperformance" of EA Sports FC 25. More information on this can be found in their financial report.
