Nintendo plans to discontinue foreign payment options on its digital stores in Japan

As of March 25, 2025, Nintendo's eShop and My Nintendo Store in Japan will no longer accept international credit cards or PayPal payments. This change was announced to counteract "fraudulent use," according to a posting on Nintendo's official support page.
Nintendo advises those who have been using credit cards or PayPal accounts from outside Japan to transition to payment methods accepted within the country, such as domestically issued credit cards.
VGC reports that international users often purchase games unavailable in their region due to the Japanese eShop services, sometimes benefiting from favorable exchange rates that make these games less expensive.
