Midnight Society ceases operations
On January 30, Midnight Society, the creator of Deadrop, announced its shutdown, resulting in 55 job losses.
The studio communicated through social media their efforts to help the affected staff find new roles in other gaming companies.
"We appreciate our community's support and regret not achieving our desired outcomes," the statement mentioned.
Brad Boice, a level designer, revealed on LinkedIn that the team received just two days' notice before the closure was communicated.
"We were informed the studio has run out of funding, leaving us to pack up," Boice expressed. "Our talented team at Midnight Society is now unemployed. I expected more financial stability to sustain us," he added.
Back in September, an unexpected series of setbacks led to layoffs at Midnight Society.
In June, the developer decided to sever ties with co-founder Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm following his controversial 2020 Twitch ban related to interactions with a minor in 2017.
The studio stated, "To uphold our values as both a company and individuals, we had to make this decision," regarding their disassociation from Beahm.
