BioWare's "agile, focused" strategy results in job reductions and reassignments within "EA teams"
BioWare is undergoing a transformation in its work structure, stating that the next installment in the Mass Effect series does not require involvement from the entire studio.
General manager Gary McKay mentioned that, despite the ongoing adjustment, the studio has made efforts to place affected BioWare employees in new roles within other teams at Electronic Arts.
IGN reports that some team members from Dragon Age have been let go as part of the restructuring.
With the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a dedicated team at BioWare, led by veterans such as Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, Parrish Ley, and others, is working on the new Mass Effect title. In a statement, McKay emphasized their commitment to innovating and delivering quality experiences to their audience during this phase of development.
McKay stated that the current development stage allows them to operate without full studio support, enabling them to reassign many colleagues to suitable roles within other EA teams.
He concluded by highlighting that these changes will result in a more agile and focused BioWare, dedicated to creating memorable RPGs, and thanked the community for its support as the studio embarks on a new chapter.
These adjustments are part of a broader realignment at BioWare to align with evolving studio requirements as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.
In related news, Corinne Busche, the game director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has voluntarily left BioWare after accepting an opportunity outside the company.
Busche stated, "I have accepted an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. While I prefer not to divulge more details now, it involves continuing in the CRPG field and maintaining the legacy of compelling characters."
