In three months, Electronic Arts will shut down the Origin launcher

Electronic Arts (EA) announced that the Origin launcher will soon be discontinued. It will be shut down on April 17.

EA explained that they are saying goodbye because Microsoft and Apple, the companies managing the Windows and MacOS operating systems, are ending support for 32-bit versions of their platforms.

EA recommended users of the launcher to switch to the more up-to-date EA app. The company warned that the EA app only supports 64-bit systems, so owners of outdated systems need to upgrade them first.

According to EA, to transition to the EA app, players just need to download the new application and log into the same account used for Origin. All games and cloud saves will automatically transfer, but there might be issues with transferring mods — the company advised contacting mod creators to ensure data isn't lost.

EA launched Origin almost 14 years ago, in June 2011. In 2020, they began gradually phasing out this launcher, starting the testing of the EA app. Two years later, the company released the EA app officially and started recommending players switch to it.
