The HD remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns is facing backlash for not including credits for the original developers.

According to Nintendo Life, the developers handled the remaster but only acknowledged the 2010 Wii game's creators with a brief mention that it was "based on the work of the original development staff."

This marks the second instance where Retro Studios has not been credited in such projects. In 2023, Metroid Prime Remastered also faced criticism for excluding Retro Studios from its credits.

Jack Mathews, who was a lead engineer on the original project, described the omission as a "tragedy," remarking on how it affects the recognition of their work in the eyes of future generations. He noted the emotional impact of not having his and his team’s contributions acknowledged when their children play the remastered games.

There has been ongoing criticism towards Nintendo for similar exclusions of contractors and translators in the past.

The company has not yet issued a public statement regarding these concerns.
