In Russia, there has been a proposal to introduce mandatory parental controls on children's spending in games

The Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Boris Chernyshov, has proposed an initiative to introduce additional restrictions in games for young gamers. He believes that in Russia, children should be prohibited from making in-game purchases without parental consent.

Chernyshov wants Russian authorities to require gaming companies to verify each transaction attempted by children with their parents. If a child does manage to make a purchase, parents should have the right to request a refund from the developers.

The deputy has already sent a letter with the proposal to the head of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev.

"Gaming companies justify themselves by claiming it's technically difficult to check every transaction, but in the digital age, such explanations appear unconvincing," Chernyshov wrote in the letter.

In Chernyshov's opinion, his initiative would reduce the number of instances where children spend large sums in games without their parents' knowledge.

The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia has not publicly commented on Chernyshov's proposal.
