The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences is set to recognize Don James, a longtime veteran of Nintendo of America
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has revealed that Don James, a long-serving member of Nintendo of America, will be the recipient of the AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award.
According to VGC, this honor is set to be awarded to James during the 28th DICE Awards on February 13, 2025.
Beginning his tenure with the company in 1981 as the executive vice president of operations, James concluded his career spanning four decades upon retiring in August 2024.
He played a key role in establishing the Entertainment Software Rating Board and contributed to forming the Interactive Digital Software Association, now known as the Entertainment Software Association.
AIAS president Meggan Scavio remarked, "Don James has been a modest yet vital figure in the gaming world, from his pivotal role at Nintendo of America to his dedication at the Starlight Children's Foundation."
She continued, "He has led many meaningful initiatives that have left a significant impact throughout his career, including his work with the Academy. We are delighted to honor his extraordinary legacy and his vast contributions to gaming history."
Expressing his gratitude, James stated, "I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Academy. The industry is brimming with talented and inventive individuals, and it has been a great privilege to get to know and collaborate with so many throughout my career."
He concluded, "My career has been an exciting journey, and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had."
