Hothead Games ceases operations
The game development company Hothead Games, from Vancouver, has ceased operations.
Last Friday, Ian Wilkinson, the CEO and president, announced on LinkedIn that the studio closed on December 13 due to bankruptcy.
Wilkinson explained, "We had a promising version of an AAA project and aimed to secure deals for both mobile and console/PC versions from various publishers." He continued, "It took us longer than anticipated to finalize these agreements."
"Two weeks ago, we were ready to finalize contracts when the mobile publisher withdrew because of a strategic shift. Shortly after, the console publisher also backed out. Bankruptcy became our sole option then," he stated.
Wilkinson added, "This might not be the end. We are optimistic about collaborating again to accomplish great things in the future."
Established in 2006 by ex-Radical Entertainment employees Steve Bocska, James Ceraldi, and Joel DeYoung, Hothead Games earned recognition for creating PC and console games alongside premium and later free-to-play mobile games.
