Capcom considers reviving additional intellectual properties after the announcements of Okami and Onimusha revivals
Following last week's announcement of a new Okami installment and the revival of Onimusha, Capcom is set to bring back more of its classic game series that have been inactive. In a press release about Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the company alluded to future revivals of its well-loved franchises but did not specify any titles.
The statement mentioned, "Besides launching major new titles every year, Capcom is investing in revitalizing older franchises without recent releases to add value to the company." The company plans to utilize its extensive library to create efficient and high-quality games, including the recently announced titles.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword and an unnamed Okami project were both revealed at The Game Awards. While both franchises have seen remasters, the last new Okami game was Okamiden on the Nintendo DS in 2010. Onimusha, aside from a browser game in 2012 and a VR title earlier this year, hasn't had a new mainline game since Dawn of Dreams in 2006.
The new Okami project also marks a noteworthy development with the return of Hideki Kamiya, the original creator, who will lead a new studio called Clovers.
