Employees at Zenimax Online Studios have decided to form a union

The workforce at Zenimax Online Studios, known for developing Elder Scrolls Online, has formed a union. This development was confirmed by the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

Named ZOS United-CWA, the union has been officially acknowledged by Microsoft, Zenimax's parent company. It comprises 461 individuals, including roles such as web developers, designers, engineers, and graphic artists, according to the recent statement.

A significant portion of the unionized personnel is located in Maryland, with additional members distributed throughout California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

This formation is part of the CWA's Campaign to Organize Digital Employees (CODE-CWA), which has successfully unionized more than 6,000 workers since 2020.

Alyssa Gobelle, a senior motion graphics artist and member of ZOS United-CWA, expressed that unionizing empowers employees to secure a better future, protect against layoffs, and offer support beyond existing workplace policies.

John Hartzell, a principal economy designer and part of ZOS United-CWA, stated that unions benefit employees across all studios, job titles, and locations.

Earlier this year, nearly 250 employees at Bethesda Game Studios, a sister company, also formed a union. More details can be found here.
