Co-founder Mitu Khandaker has declared the closure of Glow Up Games.

In a LinkedIn statement, Khandaker, who serves as the CEO, confirmed that this year marks the end for the studio, known for developing Insecure: The Come Up Game, after five years in operation. An announcement was also posted on their official website.

Khandaker expressed, "We regretfully cannot continue facing the obstacles we've tirelessly worked to overcome, particularly within a financial environment resulting in numerous established game companies shutting down."

She added, "Our aim was to create games and technology highlighting Black and brown joy, and we take pride in our accomplishments and the impact we've made, however modest. We marked several milestones, such as being the first all-woman of color-founded company in the mobile industry to secure over $1 million in equity funding. However, this also underscores the persistent disparity. We appreciate those carrying forward this critical work."

Founded by Khandaker and CXO Latoya Peterson in 2019, Glow Up sought to bring new perspectives to the gaming industry.

During DICE 2024, the co-founders elaborated on the obstacles of integrating hip-hop culture in gaming. Subsequently, at GDC, Peterson participated in a series of discussions where she critiqued the structural issues in gaming funding.
