"Utter Darkness Ahead," Dmitry Kachkov from Sobaka Studio on the Results of 2024
We continue to summarize the results of 2024 with gaming (or gaming industry-related) teams. Up next is a brief interview with the director of Sobaka Studio, Dmitry Kachkov.
How was the year for the company? What achievements would you like to highlight?
Well, aside from the KIBORG release at the beginning of 2025, we’re not thinking about anything else. All of 2024 was essentially a road leading up to this release. Right now, we're working like mad; there’s still so much to do.
How has the situation on the gaming market changed from your perspective?
Everything's a mess, there’s confusion. It’s pitch dark ahead.
How was the year for the genre in which you work?
We have a very niche genre, it’s always ‘a mess’ (not popular) every year.
Honestly, there are quite a lot of beat 'em ups being released, but nobody has managed to succeed except for Sifu, which came out three years ago.
There are also a lot of roguelikes. On the other hand, what games aren't being released in large numbers these days? Everything is abundant.
What strengthening or emergence of trends in your niche do you anticipate in 2025?
It's considered usual to focus on making things beautiful, but in my opinion, it’s more important to work on optimization so the game can run on any computer.
What are the company’s plans for the coming year?
In 2025, we have our main upcoming release. It’s terrifying, but we’re buckled down, working hard, doing the impossible! I believe everything will be perfect!
