Rocksteady halts development on Suicide Squad less than a year post-release
Rocksteady Studios will conclude its support for Suicide Squad within a year of the game's release.
In a statement on the game's official site, Rocksteady announced that the forthcoming fourth season, anticipated in the new year, will be the last.
The final update, Episode 8, is set to be released on January 14, marking the end of post-launch developments.
After January 2025, the game will remain available for purchase and play, but no further downloadable content will be introduced. An offline mode is scheduled to release on December 10, allowing play without internet connectivity.
Warner Bros admitted that the game did not meet projections, especially when contrasted with Hogwarts Legacy's launch around the same timeframe the last year.
In the first quarter of 2024, the Warner Bros Studios division, which includes TV, film, and games, reported a $200 million loss, with Suicide Squad being a contributing factor. Additionally, the second quarter saw a 41% drop in games revenue, partially due to comparisons with Hogwarts Legacy.
Later, reports emerged about multiple challenges during the game's development, including shifting goals, demanding leadership, and Rocksteady's limited experience in multiplayer and live service games. Following these issues, in September, Rocksteady faced layoffs.
