Reforged Studios has announced the acquisition of Yellow Lab Games

Reforged Studios has expanded its portfolio with the purchase of Yellow Lab Games, a developer from South Africa.

The financial specifics of this acquisition were not revealed. It has been stated that Yellow Lab will maintain its independence, focusing on its own intellectual properties and also supporting Reforged Studios' ventures.

Yellow Lab Games is currently developing Metavoidal, a heavy metal-themed roguelite RPG. The game entered its alpha phase on Itch.io and aims for a complete release on Steam in the first quarter of 2025.

This marks the third acquisition by Reforged this year, following its deals in August to acquire Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios.

Peter Van Der Watt, CEO and founder of Reforged, expressed his appreciation for the talent in South African game development, stating, "Having grown up in South Africa, I've long recognized the immense game development skills present there. Yellow Lab Games came onto my radar with the positive feedback for Metavoidal, their debut in the PC and console arena."

Van Der Watt added, "Since moving to Scotland in 2011 to establish my initial game studio, I've been a strong advocate for South African game development worldwide. The Reforged board is equally enthusiastic about the region's promise. Welcoming David Hecker and his team into our fold was an obvious decision. This move bolsters our team with South Africa's top gaming talent and is likely the start of broader investments in Africa's rising gaming industry."
