Mac Walters' Worlds Untold studio has put its operations on hold while searching for a new funding partner
Another studio, established by a former BioWare member, has ceased operations within merely two days.
Worlds Untold, started by Mac Walters and supported by NetEase, has announced a halt in operations while it seeks additional funding sources.
Mac Walters expressed deep sadness in a LinkedIn post, stating his immense appreciation for the team's efforts.
Walters conveyed difficulty in articulating the situation, noting that the studio will be "pausing operations" during the search for a new partner to help realize their ambitions.
He highlighted the challenging nature of the decision, underlining the personal significance of the journey and praising the team's accomplishments.
The team members will pursue new ventures, with Walters offering to connect prospective employers with some of the most skilled professionals he has collaborated with.
Walters also mentioned the importance of support from partners and loved ones, emphasizing that this pause is not the end of their story.
It's uncertain how many staff members are impacted by this development. Nevertheless, according to LinkedIn, the remotely operated, Canada-based Worlds Untold has a workforce ranging from 11 to 50 employees.
The announcement follows news from the previous day regarding Humanoid Origin's shutdown, leading to the termination of a sci-fi game's development. Humanoid Origin, established by ex-BioWare general manager Casey Hudson in 2021, operated in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
