A new gaming studio in Saudi Arabia has been launched by Scopely under the leadership of former EA executive Charity Joy.

The facility, known as Mirai, seeks to harness and develop local talent from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Mirai has not yet disclosed any specific game projects under development, but it is currently in the process of hiring staff.

Charity Joy's career at EA spanned three years, beginning in 2021 as franchise senior producer on EA Sports. She later transitioned to Criterion as an executive producer in 2022, and by November 2023, she had become the general manager prior to her departure in October 2024.

Her experience also includes working with The Walt Disney Company in 2007 as production manager on Club Penguin, later becoming creative director in 2014.

Scopely COO Eunice Lee stated, "As part of [our] ongoing ambition to build the most talent-condensed Scopely ecosystem possible, we continue to expand to new markets around the globe."

Lee remarked on the significant potential, noting, "We see an incredible opportunity to invest in this emerging market and passionate talent base to build the best games possible."

Expressing her excitement, Mirai CEO Charity Joy commented, "Mirai is mine, and I'm ready to put my two decades of experience to work to build something impactful that will contribute to the world of games."

Joy emphasized the mission of Mirai, stating, "I am honored to embark on the journey of leading Mirai, aiming to build an incredible, world-class team that thrives on continuous learning and accelerates the capacity of the game development talent in the region."
