The release of Royal Kingdom took place. During its soft launch, the game earned $14 million

On November 21, Dream Games released Royal Kingdom globally. This is the sequel to the highly successful mobile puzzle game Royal Match, whose revenue exceeds $3 billion.

Royal Kingdom

Royal Kingdom, like its predecessor, is a project in the match-3 genre. Players also need to develop their own fairy-tale kingdom, but now it has moved to a new location according to the story. A significant difference is the introduction of PvE battles with bosses in Royal Kingdom.

The game had been in soft launch since April 2023 and has undergone several major changes since then. For instance, the first version of Royal Kingdom was more hardcore, included PvP levels and social casino elements, but later Dream Games decided to drop some of these ideas.

Lead game designer at Rovio Entertainment, Harshal Karvande, believes that Royal Kingdom has the potential to reach the top 10 highest-grossing mobile puzzle games worldwide over time. However, he worries that the new release might "cannibalize" Royal Match.

“The puzzle audience has shrunk. Hence, there's no way that scaling Royal Kingdom won't have a significant impact on Royal Match,” wrote Karvande in the Naavik Digest newsletter.

Nevertheless, Karvande also recalled the experience of Playrix, which launched several relatively similar games (Gardenscapes, Homescapes, and others) and successfully profited from them.

According to data from the analytics service AppMagic, during the 19 months of the soft launch, Royal Kingdom earned $14.86 million from IAPs. This is after Dream Games paid mobile store commissions and taxes. By the day of its global release, the puzzle game had been downloaded 5.9 million times.
