Sam Lake to be honored at the New York Game Awards
Sam Lake, Remedy's creative director, is set to be honored with the Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the upcoming New York Game Awards, now in its 14th year.
This award honors individuals who have had a profound influence on the gaming world. In the previous year, the recipient was Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog. Esteemed figures such as Hideo Kojima, Phil Spencer, and Tim Schafer have also been honored in the past.
"A Remedy game is recognizable largely due to the influence of Sam Lake on the universes he brings to life," remarked Harold Goldberg, the president and founder of the New York Video Game Critics Circle.
"His two-decade journey with Remedy has left a notable impression on many of our members and Circle interns, and we are excited to welcome him to the distinguished group of industry leaders that have previously been celebrated with the Andrew Yoon Legend Award," Goldberg continued.
Lake began his journey with Remedy back in 1995, contributing as a writer for the company's inaugural title, Death Rally. In the development of Max Payne, he played multiple roles, notably as the lead writer and the character model for Max Payne himself.
Lake is also the creator of the Alan Wake series, which debuted in 2010. For its sequel in 2023, he served as co-director and lead writer and performed motion capture for the character Alex Casey, who was voiced by the late James McCaffrey.
Additionally, Lake co-directed Quantum Break and authored Control.
This year's New York Game Awards will take place at the SVA Theatre on January 21, 2025.
