Payload Studios announces additional job cuts
Payload Studios, known for developing TerraTech, has made additional job cuts.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the company let go of eight more employees, following a previous reduction of 25% of its workforce just three months earlier. Those who lost their jobs reportedly received one month's notice but did not receive severance pay.
Russell Clarke, CEO and co-founder of Payload, acknowledged the layoffs but did not provide further specifics.
"Recently, we announced more layoffs," Clarke stated to GamesIndustry.biz. "This unexpected development came due to a project we depended on falling through, putting us in a tough position. The specifics concerning notice periods, severance, and the total number of individuals affected are still being worked out. However, we had to inform our staff early to provide as much advance warning as possible to those who may be impacted.
"We're currently navigating a fluid situation, so no concrete details are available yet—we hope to provide clarity to our team later this week. As a small studio enduring difficult times, our employees remain our top priority."
A source mentioned that one of the studio's co-founders might have been among those laid off, though it's uncertain who it was.
"I'm afraid that's correct," Clarke acknowledged, without naming the co-founder potentially affected. "While still determining the facts, our remaining team will need to operate very efficiently."
In August, Payload reduced its staff by 25%, attributing the cuts to broader industry challenges.
The studio, based in London, was formed in 2013 by Clarke and Vincent Scheurer, its operations director.
