Super Mario Party Jamboree debuts as the top seller in Japan's monthly charts
The recent release of Super Mario Party Jamboree secured the top position in Japan's October sales charts, with more than 227,500 copies sold in its first fortnight. This new installment surpassed the previous Mario Party Superstars, which sold 245,000 units over the same timeframe following its late October 2021 launch.
October's Top 10 chart was filled with fresh releases and PlayStation 5 products, notably featuring Atlus' debut of Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new intellectual property. This title achieved sales of 133,000 units across its PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 editions, marking the strongest performance of any new IP in 2024 so far.
Square Enix's Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven achieved combined sales of 115,000 across the Switch, PS5, and PS4 platforms. This game appeared twice within the Top 10, ranking No.6 on the Switch and No.8 on the PS5, while its PlayStation 4 version was positioned at No.20.
In terms of company performance, Nintendo led the charts with a market share of 35.9%, equating to ¥3.6 billion ($23.3 million). Thanks to Metaphor: ReFantazio's successful release, Atlus rose from the 16th to the 2nd spot, securing 13.2% of the market share, valued at ¥1.3 billion ($8.4 million).
The Switch remained the dominant console for game sales in October, with 976,520 physical games sold, capturing 64.4% of the market share.
In hardware sales, Nintendo's Switch led again, selling 242,466 units across its various editions. The PS5's two versions sold a total of 47,615 units, earning the second place.
