Amplitude Studios reestablishes its independence from Sega

Amplitude Studios is set to become independent again after Sega Europe decided to go separate ways, following a management buyout executed by the studio's staff.
The decision to let the Paris-based developer focus on its own intellectual property comes after detailed discussions between both parties.
This development concludes a series of "structural reforms" that Sega's European division has been undergoing, as stated in their release.
Romain de Waubert de Genlis, leader at Amplitude, expressed that the studio, fortified by its strong franchise offerings, is eager to leverage this independence for creating exceptional games. He remarked that this enables the team to be more agile and maintain their original vision while staying connected with their audience.
Jurgen Post, who holds the role of COO at West Studios and is the managing director for the SOE region, stated, "Our collaboration over the past eight years yielded exciting outcomes, and this step ensures Amplitude's prosperity while allowing Sega to continue its strategic pursuits."
In 2016, Sega acquired Amplitude, a developer renowned for its 4X strategy games, with the initial acquisition driven by the studio's desire for greater support and broader audience engagement.
Over the years, Sega has seen significant transformations within its European operations, such as the cancellation of Creative Assembly's Hyenas and reductions in workforce numbers.
Additionally, Sega sold Relic earlier this year and reduced 240 positions across its UK locations.
