Media report: Concord's budget exceeded $200 million, excluding the purchase of Firewalk Studios

The publication Kotaku reported this information, citing two sources familiar with the agreement between Sony and Firewalk Studios. It is noted that the initial deal for the development of Concord amounted to just over $200 million.

PlayStation announced its partnership with Firewalk in 2021. It is likely that the parties signed a contract for the creation of the shooter then (the actual production began a few years earlier).

However, as Kotaku notes, $200 million was not sufficient for the entire production cycle of Concord. The exact budget remains unknown, as media could not determine the marketing expenses and other details.

Additionally, this contract did not include the purchase of rights to Concord or the acquisition of Firewalk itself. Recall that Sony became the owner of the studio last year, but the deal's amount was not disclosed.

Concord was on the market for less than two weeks before PlayStation shut down the game’s servers. According to GameDiscoverCo estimates, sales of the PvP shooter reached about 25,000 copies, with most sold on the PS5.

Yesterday, Sony Interactive Entertainment head Hermen Hulst announced the closure of Firewalk Studios, alongside mobile developer Neon Koi. He noted that the company needs to act more strategically for the long-term growth of the PlayStation brand beyond the console itself.
