SAG-AFTRA reports that agreements have been signed for "over 120 games from 49 companies"

SAG-AFTRA has announced that, in the lead-up to renewed talks with video game companies, over 120 games from 49 firms have committed to signing the union's budgetary and interim contracts.

The main point of disagreement has been the union’s insistence on obtaining consent, fair payment, and transparency in the application of AI for its members operating under the contract.

Commenting on the agreements, SAG-AFTRA emphasized that the newly signed contracts include critical, AI-related protections also sought in the Interactive Media Agreement, illustrating that these terms are both sensible and workable. The union adds that these contracts provide job opportunities during the ongoing strike.

Sarah Elmaleh, heading the Interactive Media Agreement Negotiating Committee, stated, "Humane AI safeguarding for actors is not an excessive request, and the acceptance of these contracts indicates widespread company agreement."

Elmaleh continued, "Companies are open to adopting basic, ethical guides for this technology while maintaining a fair use of it, allowing collaboration with professional actors. The talent is eager to work with companies that value them."

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA's national executive director and chief negotiator, noted the rapid signing rate of contracts, with over 120 already confirmed. He expressed hope for a successful accord on the Interactive Media Agreement, while remaining open to collaboration with companies willing to negotiate fair terms, including AI usage.

After halting operations for three months, SAG-AFTRA resumed discussions with a bargaining group featuring representatives from Activision, Blindlight, Disney Character Voices, EA, Formosa Interactive, Insomniac Games, Llama Productions, Take 2, and WB Games.

In July, SAG-AFTRA voted to commence a strike after negotiations with the video game companies' bargaining group failed, mainly due to unresolved issues about AI-related rights and protections.

Recently, SAG-AFTRA secured deals with developers of 80 forthcoming games amid ongoing striking efforts to enhance actor conditions, especially regarding AI safeguards.
