The Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team has been disbanded. Ubisoft was dissatisfied with the game's sales

Ubisoft has disbanded the team that worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The employees have been reassigned to other projects.

This was reported by French journalist Gauthier Andres, citing sources from the team.

The decision was made a few weeks after the game's release, which occurred in January of this year.

However, the developers only learned in the spring that their team would be disbanded after completing work on the DLC.

Several key team members tried to persuade management to launch a sequel. They were denied.

After that, the team insisted on releasing two expansions for the game. They were allowed to release one, but the second was "canceled."

The reason for the studio's dissolution is straightforward. Despite a warm reception from the press and players, sales of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown did not meet the company's expectations.

Ubisoft's management considered it wiser to reassign employees to projects with greater commercial potential.

According to Gauthier, team members described working on the game as "one of the best productions of their lives."

The employees hoped the team would serve as a sort of rehab for specialists who had burned out working on Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Both games, including Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, were developed within Ubisoft Montpellier. This specific studio was investigated by law enforcement last year for compliance with labor laws.

In 2022, dozens of studio employees suffered burnout while working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. For some of them, working on The Lost Crown, which had a different process structure, became a reprieve.
