Following an internal restructuring, NCSoft has reduced its workforce, although the exact number remains undisclosed. The developer from South Korea revealed that it's scaling back or halting certain projects and support operations to concentrate resources more effectively.

The company indicated plans to reassign current staff and initiate a voluntary retirement scheme as part of this shift.

According to South Korean news outlet Yonhap (cited by Game Developer), Co-CEOs Taek-Jin Kim and Byung-Moo Park warned that the company risks becoming consistently unprofitable following a downturn in the second quarter.

They emphasized the need for "significant transformation" for sustainability and assured support and compensation for affected staff.

In its restructuring, NCSoft is launching four entirely owned subsidiaries on February 1, 2025, which include three standalone game studios and one entity dedicated to AI.

Studio X will continue working on Throne and Liberty, while Studios Y and Z will handle Project LLL and Tactan, respectively.

The AI branch, NC Research, will become NC AI, aiming to advance NCSoft’s AI technologies like Varco LLM, for use in developing games and exploring other ventures.
