The Amazon TV adaptation of "God of War" is said to be undergoing significant changes, as reports indicate it has lost its showrunner and will begin development anew
Update, October 23, 2024: Ronald D. Moore has been appointed as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer for the God of War television series, according to Variety.
Moore is renowned for his contributions to science fiction television, including involvement with Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind.
Original story, October 21, 2024: The God of War project by Amazon is reportedly undergoing a complete overhaul after losing its initial showrunner.
Deadline reported that Rafe Judkins, along with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, has exited the series despite having several scripts ready for the debut season.
A Deadline source indicated that both Amazon and Sony are seeking a "different creative direction," noting that the scripts had been positively received by both companies.
Sony is said to be in the process of forming a new writers' team. Even though Judkins will not continue with God of War, he remains engaged with other Sony projects due to his overall deal with the company.
The God of War series was initially announced in December 2022, as part of a slate of adaptations including those of the Horizon games and Gran Turismo.
Originating from the 2018 game developed by Santa Monica Studio, the series is a collaboration between Sony Pictures TV, MGM Amazon Studios, and PlayStation Productions.
