The executive producer of XDefiant has denied speculation regarding a potential shutdown of the game, despite ongoing challenges at Ubisoft
Claims circulating about the discontinuation of Ubisoft's XDefiant have been refuted by the executive producer of the game.
The speculation began when a leaker on X suggested that XDefiant is nearing closure unless player engagement rises significantly by its fourth season.
In response, Ubisoft's Mark Rubin addressed the speculation through a message on X, clarifying that "there are NO plans to shut down after season 4."
Rubin explained he spent time discussing the game's future, focusing on content improvement and expansion for upcoming seasons, while noting that limited marketing was intentional to refine the game before larger promotional efforts.
The debate emerges as Ubisoft faces challenging times with various projects not meeting expectations, notably after lower-than-anticipated sales for Star Wars Outlaws resulted in a significant share price drop for the publisher.
Ubisoft has adjusted its financial outlook in light of these events, launched an internal evaluation for operational improvements, and delayed the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows to early 2025.
Speculation has also surfaced regarding a potential privatization of Ubisoft, citing a possible acquisition by Tencent and Guillemot Brothers.
Despite setbacks with recent major releases, Ubisoft regards XDefiant as a success. The game, released on May 21, saw an impressive 11 million players within its first month.
XDefiant was identified as a standout performer in Ubisoft's latest financial statements.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented on the initial success, noting plans for consistent audience growth and a content-driven roadmap in future quarters to solidify the game's presence.
Ubisoft is set to announce its financial results for the first half of the fiscal year on October 30.
