A total of $1.3 million has been allocated to nine indie studios by Screen Queensland.

The funds from the Games Grant initiative will facilitate the creation of a dozen games and contribute to the employment of over 40 additional positions for developers in the area.

This initiative provides backing for projects at all development stages, offering up to $200,000 per funding round with a maximum of $300,000 over the project's life.

The recent grants will benefit developers at studios like Fuzzy Ghost, Saltpunk, BaristaGamer Productions, Sagestone, Sbug Games, Maxart, Flow-State, and Spitfire Interactive, in addition to enabling the complete launch of 5 Lives Studio’s Cozy Caravan.

Moreover, new projects by Prideful Sloth, The Tea Division, and Spunge Games have received support through the digital games funding program.

Jacqui Feeney, CEO of Screen Queensland, stated, "Our contribution to various levels of the local industry is generating significant returns, bolstering confidence in Queensland’s studios and their innovative projects."

Feeney continued, "We are thrilled to be fostering growth and opportunities within a sector where local talents can lead globally in crafting unique games."

"Following a doubling of Games Grant funds, we’ve seen a 133% surge in the number of projects we're backing, proving that these independent games create tangible, highly specialized technical roles," she added.

Screen Queensland, a state-owned body, dedicates investments toward games, films, and series developed locally, while also drawing in international and interstate productions. The next grant applications open in December 2024.
