Microsoft has decided to cease production of HoloLens 2, with no plans for a successor
The cessation of production for Microsoft's HoloLens 2 will occur at the end of 2027.
According to UploadVR, ongoing "updates to address critical security issues and software regressions" will be provided until the cessation of software support at that time.
This augmented reality headset made its debut in 2019, following the original HoloLens by three years.
In a 2022 report by Business Insider, it was revealed that Microsoft had halted development on the HoloLens 3. Additionally, the company withdrew Windows Mixed Reality from an operating system update the following year.
Microsoft emphasized its ongoing commitment to the military-focused HoloLens IVAS, which is slated for testing by the U.S. Army in early 2025.
The termination of the HoloLens 2's production follows cuts in the mixed reality department this past June, as reported by CNBC.
