Mountaintop Studios announces "difficult decision" to let go of 13 employees
Thirteen developers have been let go from Mountaintop Studios, which has deemed the decision necessary for sustaining long-term support for both Spectre and its community.
The game, Spectre Divide, is a recent release from the studio, having debuted free-to-play on September 3. Currently, it holds a "mixed" rating from users on the Steam platform.
In a statement provided to Polygon, Nate Mitchell, the CEO and co-founder, explained, "We had to make this difficult decision to ensure we can support Spectre and its community over the long haul." He expressed gratitude for the affected employees' dedication and effort over the years.
This move is part of a larger trend in the games industry, where approximately 12,700 jobs are estimated to have been lost in 2024. This figure does not include significant layoffs in games media, such as those at Gamurs and Game Informer.
