Shukuo Ishikawa, the former president of Bandai Namco, has passed away at the age of 69

Shukuo Ishikawa, who previously led Bandai Namco, passed away at the age of 69.

According to a statement shared by Oricon News, Bandai Namco chose to withhold the announcement of his death, which occurred on September 9, until after his funeral services.

"We are saddened to announce the passing of Shukuo Ishikawa, who served as both the president of Bandai Namco Holdings and Bandai Namco Entertainment, on September 9th, 2024, at 69 years old. We extend our gratitude for the support and kindness extended to him throughout his career.

"The wake and funeral were held privately with family members. We delayed the public announcement until after these services. In agreement with his family's wishes, we ask that no flowers, tributes, or condolences be sent, and appreciate your understanding."

Ishikawa, who began his career at Namco in 1978, was instrumental in the creation of several significant titles, such as Gator Panic, Soul Calibur, Xenosaga, and the Tales series.

Following the merger of Bandai and Namco in the mid-2000s, Ishikawa became the leader of the games division, later becoming president, and assumed the role of chairperson in 2018, stepping down a year after that.

The company plans to conduct a memorial service for Ishikawa at a later time.
