Reports suggest that Gamurs Group has recently laid off additional employees

Update: Affected staff revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that early this morning, 30 employees were laid off through an email notification and were immediately cut off from Slack and their company email accounts.

The email explained that these layoffs resulted from "unprecedented changes" in the sector, particularly influenced by the 2023 Google Helpful Content update and a general downturn in Google search and Discover traffic across various sites.

GamesIndustry.biz has seen communications from Gamurs Group's CEO Riad Chikhani and Chief Content Officer Kevin Morris in the HR Slack channel, stating that the layoffs are part of a "necessary restructuring" to align the business with its existing goals.

Furthermore, it mentioned that Gamurs Group will "alter its compensation structure for freelance writers to fairly reward longer, more detailed work."

Original report: Another wave of layoffs has reportedly impacted the publications under Gamurs Group, affecting an unspecified number of employees.

Former staff members announced on social media that they were informed about their layoffs via email, which took immediate effect.

The affected individuals include Dot Esports gaming editor Vic Hood, Australian managing editor Isaac McIntyre from Dot Esports, Tom Hopkins, managing editor at Twinfinite, Jamie Sharp of Destructoid, and Diego Perez, a senior staff writer at PC Invasion.

GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Gamurs Group for further comments.

Gamurs Group previously executed layoffs in July, which affected staff from the same publications. Additionally, in November, multiple staff departed from The Escapist after the dismissal of then editor-in-chief Nick Calandra.
