Behaviour Interactive has completed the acquisition of Red Hook Studios, the developers of Darkest Dungeon
Behaviour Interactive, known for its work on Dead by Daylight, has purchased Red Hook Studios, although the financial terms were not disclosed.
Red Hook Studios, based in Vancouver, has gained recognition through its Darkest Dungeon series, with nearly seven million copies sold.
The team of 29 employees will remain, and the studio will function independently under the umbrella of Behaviour Interactive.
Behaviour's CEO and co-founder, Rémi Racine, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating the goal to make Behaviour synonymous with horror games. "Welcoming Red Hook is a significant step in our mission to build a robust repertoire of horror games alongside Dead by Daylight," he noted.
Chris Bourassa, co-founder of Red Hook, remarked on their shared vision with Behaviour. "We're thrilled to join forces with another independent, Canadian studio. With Behaviour's resources, we can fully realize our aspirations for Darkest Dungeon as a leading title in the dark fantasy genre," he stated.
This acquisition marks the fourth for Behaviour in two years, following previous purchases including SockMonkey Studios, Codeglue, and Fly Studio. The company also opened a UK branch last year with former AntiMatter Games personnel.
Recently, Behaviour Interactive announced the termination of Project T, a planned offshoot of Dead by Daylight. This development led to the closure of Midwinter Entertainment, the studio behind the project, which had been acquired by Behaviour two years earlier. Behaviour emphasized the decision was based on a thorough risk evaluation, not a reflection of the team's abilities.
