Lawsuits concerning addiction to two games have been dismissed

Lawsuits that accused major gaming companies of fostering video game addiction have been dropped by the individual who brought them forward.

A detailed examination of legal documents by Game File (subscription required) showed the dismissed cases originated in Arkansas and Ohio and targeted Epic, Activision Blizzard, Take Two Interactive, Rockstar Games, Roblox, Microsoft, and Sony, on behalf of minors.

Defense attorneys for these corporations argued, as mentioned in the initial filings, that the First Amendment provided them protection and asserted that the agreements signed by users demanded arbitration instead of filing lawsuits, according to Game File.

Back in October, a comparable lawsuit was initiated in Arkansas against Microsoft, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and Epic Games along with some associated studios.

This earlier case was initiated by a mother representing her son and her husband, the boy’s father, alleging that the child engaged in gaming for 12 to 14 hours daily and spent roughly $3,000 on game-related purchases.
