Metacore has ceased working on Everdale and has handed the game's development back to its original creator, Supercell
Metacore, a notable player in the mobile gaming sector, is ceasing its efforts on the village-building simulator Everdale and handing it back to the originator, Supercell.
CEO Mike Tammenkoski explained in a blog post that it was a "difficult decision" to halt Everdale's development, as they were unable to find a way to enhance the game's market suitability and make it viable long-term.
The intellectual property has now been returned to Supercell, its initial creator.
Tammenkoski stated, "We endeavored to revamp Everdale by consulting players to strengthen its market alignment and ensure its commercial longevity."
He continued, "Regrettably, we couldn't ascertain a method to better fit the game into the market effectively for extended support to its community.
"After thorough deliberation, we decided to cease development on Everdale and revert the IP to Supercell. This decision is challenging, given the enthusiastic community supporting Everdale," Tammenkoski said. Despite the challenges, there were valuable insights gained during the development process, "which did not yield the anticipated result," he added.
At the close of last year, Metacore had acquired Everdale from Supercell. The Finnish company halted the development of this multiplayer mobile game in October 2022.
