Timbre Games has reopened and gained independence

At the beginning of the summer, it became known that the Sumo Group holding was closing the Canadian studio Timbre Games as part of a cost-cutting program. Three months later, the studio managed to reopen its doors.

Co-founder and CEO of Timbre Games, Joe Nickolls, shared on LinkedIn that the developers did not want to give up and decided to break away from the Sumo Group's umbrella instead of closing.

“The amazing people at Sumo Digital [a subsidiary of Sumo Group. — Ed. note] helped us become a completely independent studio and allowed us to take the name and brand Timbre Games with us. We are very grateful to them for their help,” Nickolls wrote.

Timbre Games was initially founded in 2021. It was established by a group of gaming industry veterans who previously worked at companies like Maxis, The Coalition, and Relic Entertainment. As of June 2024, Timbre Games had approximately 100 employees who were working on two unannounced games for consoles and PC.
