Timbre Games resumes operations as an independent studio

Timbre Games has resumed operations autonomously just three months following its shutdown by the Sumo Group.

According to a statement by CEO Joe Nickolls on Linkedin, Sumo Digital permitted the retention of the Timbre name and aided in the studio's journey to becoming independent. Additionally, Timbre has teamed up with Studio Capital Management for business growth strategies, noted Nickolls.

Nickolls indicated that further details concerning Timbre's leadership and future plans are anticipated to be disclosed in the near future.

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Timbre for clarity on the implications for the former staff affected by Sumo’s layoffs and any projects they were engaged in.

The studio was initially closed in June during Sumo Group's downsizing, which resulted in 15% of its employees losing their jobs.

Operating out of Vancouver, Timbre was launched in 2021 as an extension of Pipework Studios, which Sumo Group bought for $100 million in September 2020. Before the shutdown, Timbre had a workforce exceeding 100 people.
